Artifact Detection and Correction for Operator Functional State Estimation
نویسندگان
چکیده
Determining operator functional state is a critical component of adaptively aiding closed human-in-the-loop systems. The input measures or features used to define the operator functional state (OFS) model must be free of artifacts to ensure accurate classification of operator functional state. Electroencephalography (EEG) is a major component of the OFS model. Since the EEG magnitude is small relative to other psychophysiological measures it is most susceptible to contamination or artifact. Eye blinks and body movements are the usual culprit of artifact in EEG. This paper discusses an adaptive filter algorithm for removal of both horizontal and vertical eye movements including blinks. Muscle activation is also a major source of EEG contamination. A discussion of a promising muscle artifact removal using independent component analysis is presented. Additional artifacts can be detected but not removed using a simple statistical technique which is presented here.

Artifact detection and correction in Neurofeedback and BCI applications
Scalp recorded electroencephalogram signals (EEG) can nowadays be recorded by pocket-size devices, giving rise to several new consumer based applications of EEG, e.g. brain computer interfaces (BCIs) and neurofeedback (NF). Using EEG ambulatory systems such as these, creates new challenges for EEG data analysis, especially concerning artifact handling. In a clinical setting, EEG can be recorded...
متن کاملBrain Activity Map Extraction of Neuromyelitis Optica Patients Using Resting-State fMRI Data Based on Amplitude of Low Frequency Fluctuations and Regional Homogeneity Analysis
Introduction: Neuromyelitis Optica (NMO) is a rare inflammatory disease of the central nervous system which generally affecting the spinal cord and optic nerve. Damage to the optic nerve can result in the patient's dim vision or even blindness, while the spinal cord damage may lead to sensory and motor paralysis and the weakness of the lower limbs in the patient. Magnetic Reson...
متن کاملMotion Compensation with Floating Navigator and GRAPPA Operators
Introduction Recent developments in partially parallel imaging (PPI) techniques provide new opportunities for motion artifact reduction [1-2]. One PPI technique that exhibits great potentials in many motion detection and correction scenarios is the GRAPPA operator [3], as the GRAPPA kernels can be flexibly positioned for k-space interpolation and extrapolation in any direction. This work propos...
متن کاملTHE MORPHO-FUNCTIONAL STATE OF THE BRAIN UNDER CONDITIONS OF HYPOKINESIA AND ITS POSSIBLE PHARMACOLOGICAL CORRECTION BY GABA-ERGIC SUBSTANCES
In this paper it has been shown that deterioration of the brain cortex capillary system and negative dynamics of cerebral tissue morphology occur under conditions of hypo kinesia. Simultaneously, gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) and piracetam have been shown to favor the development of vasodilation and prevent further worsening of the cerebral blood supply. During the experiment, it was also ...
متن کاملArtifact reduction techniques in Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT) imaging modality
Introduction: Cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) was introduced and became more common based on its low cost, fast image procedure rate and low radiation dose compared to CT. This imaging modality improved diagnostic and treatment-planning procedures by providing three-dimensional information with greatly reduced level of radiation dose compared to 2D dental imaging modalitie...
